Hometown Heroes: Kimberly Kimble

This hairstylist to the stars not only boasts a star-studded resume and a hot West Hollywood salon, but also her own signature line of products.

Finding a hairstylist in Los Angeles is easy, but finding one with the credentials of Kimberly Kimble? Not so much. The Chicago native is one of the most sought after hairstylists in the city, counting a-listers like Halle Berry, Gabrielle Union and Beyonce Knowles among her fabulously stylish clientele.

It's easy to see why -- hair has always been a part of Kimble's life. "My mother is also a hairstylist; I learned so much from her -- she's the one that introduced me to the business," Kimble recalls. "I got my start washing hair in her salon." Not only was Kimble's mother a hairstylist, but both her grandmothers were as well. But having family roots in hair was just the beginning. Kimble studied at the Universal College of Beauty before moving on to the Vidal Sasson Academy, then finished her studies at Dudley Cosmetology University in North Carolina .

Kimble opened her first salon, Phaze II Hair Salon, in 1995, followed by Epiphany Hair Studio five years later. In the in-between time, she started working in Hollywood on movies like B.A.P.S. and T.V. shows like The Parenthood, The Jamie Foxx Show and Moesha. As if that weren't enough, Kimble also styled hair for major cosmetic companies like L'Oreal, CoverGirl and Neutrogena, and added advertising campaigns to her repertoire with campaigns for Pepsi and True Star for Tommy Hilfiger.

Add her work with magazines including Harpers Bazaar, Elle, In Style, Rolling Stone and many others, and you'd think that would be enough to satisfy Kemble, but you'd be wrong. She still had another trick up her sleeve: creating a custom hair care line. Kimble Hair Care Systems was created with her Hollywood work in mind... namely, a need for styling products that could endure long hours of filming and still remain fresh and healthy.

"My ultimate goal is to help women's hair look and feel healthy," she says. "I want to give them the ability to maintain their own hair and feel confident about styling it themselves at home. If their hair looks good, they will have more confidence."

Kimble's line of products – including formulated shampoos, conditioners, scalp treatments, styling products, pomades, and hair/body soaps for men and women – are loaded with essential oils and goodies like honey and oatmeal, peppermint and ginger. In fact, though Kimble says her most popular seller is the Bounce Back Curling Revitalizer, she thinks everyone should have a bottle of her Ginger Cream Conditioner. Her personal favorite in the line? "Peppermint Cream Shampoo," she says. "It's a great cleanser that tingles the scalp, smells good, feels great, and cleans without stripping the moisture. It contains natural oils and helps moisturize the hair."

Kimble also specializes in extensions -- she admits it's her latest hair trend obsession. So it makes sense that her hair care line would feature some special products to help customers get the most out of their extensions, wigs or other faux-hair options. Considering the wide range of options, it's hard to pin down who the Kimble Hair Care System customer is... which is just how Kimble likes it.

"My customer base includes all nationalities and hair textures," she says. "The clientele that I work with are powerful, achievers, strong dreamers, and they know what they want. They come to me to improve their hair – both its health and its look. They strive to go above and beyond."

And so does Kimberly Kimble.
